Description

I've been having trouble figuring out what to do on full-moon nights this time of year, as anything that would be worth checking out in narrowband is too small for my relatively short scope. I decided to try an entirely new type of target to me—globular clusters—and started with M13. 30s exposures seemed to make sense here, as I really wanted to try to spot the propeller and the moon threatened to wash out the background. I've tried to emphasize the propeller, at a cost of a bit of the cluster's overall brightness and size... but it's there! The AP08CC's small pixels, a large dither, and 2x Drizzle really helped here. I'm still struggling to get happy with my star color (and to get rid of the weird hard-edged halo the brighter ones seem to have) but am happier with this attempt than the last. Thanks for stopping by

Pixinsight Workflow:

STF
BackgroundNetutralization
Color Calibration
Gradient Correction
BlurXTerminator
Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch
Curves - c* and sat adjustment
Star De-Emphasis Script - on starfield, leave cluster untouched
StarNet - create starless and starmask
Topaz Denoise on starless (can’t afford NoiseXTerminator, Deepsnr & NebuNoise produce artifacts for me for some reason. But they would probably be great for you! Try em out)
Recombine Stars
Export
